History. Mercedes SL Series, presented as a prototype in 1952, was marketed in 1954 and was an immediate success. The flagship of the brand with the star was undoubtedly the 300 SL, a breathtaking beauty. Not only she enjoyed extraordinary prestige, but it was also technically very advanced for its time: it already had direct injection Bosch, and its weight relatively content, and its 215 horsepower (we are in 1954! ) made it the fastest car of all commercial cars (depending on axle ratio, it could reach 260 km / h!) From this moment, Mercedes SL series created unabated to this day still. In addition to the 300 SL, considered priceless, the Stuttgart firm released two other models, more accessible, the 190 and the 180 reported in 1955. But when the 300 SL first generation left the scene in the early sixties, engineers regarded brand that car was irreplaceable and should seek in other directions. So they had the idea of perpetuating the legend SL, but in a minor key. Thus was born the beautiful and legendary 230 SL series, which alone was produced in two years to 14,700 copies, which was higher than the entire 300 series SL spread over eight years! She wore the nickname "pagoda" because of its slightly curved roof. The 280 SL that followed was made until 1971, when production ceased the chagrin of fans so typical of this model. Finally, in 1971, a new version of the SL class made its appearance: she lines a little more rounded than those of the Pagoda, and were produced simultaneously version discoverable (IK) and cut (the SLC). To expand its offerings, the SL is declined in several versions ranging from 2 liters to 5 liters monstrous. However, few details, their body was similar, only the interior and the dashboard could vary by model and year to another. The version that is presented here is the intermediate version, and probably more homogeneous. Since then and until now, the SL models have succeeded with more or less success depending on the model and year. Specifications.
